Custom command documentation

How about some useful documentation for AEC content custom command strings? I'm trying to put together title marks and have practically no idea where to begin.

I'd love a little white paper on custom tags.

The only thing I heard while training was "Well just copy a tag and modify it"
I haven't had much success with that method.
