dxf question

Does anyone know how to apply template settings to the dxfin command? I work in a small office. Our office surveyor is the business owner. He currently uses an old survey package from sokkia that runs in dos. He sends everything in dxf format. I have tried to get him to switch to autodesk survey but he doesn't want to have to learn something new.
I am setting up a template file with all of our layers, linetypes, etc. but most of the drawings begin as dxf files and I need to know how to quickly apply the template in order to save time. If anyone knows anything that will help me, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Without writing something that interacts / reads the DXF file as it is being Imported, I think you are going to be out of luck (hopefully someone will prove me wrong, here)...

Just thinking out loud here...

* Create your Template file.

* DXFIN as per normal.

* Look at things like _.LayTrans / _.Standards / _.CheckStandards / etc to help the process.
