I HATE the fact that Revit doesn't have a 'current fixes' list. C'mon Factory. We would all like to know. Even if it is minuscule.

If they are of consequence, they'll let us know. I imagine this also fixes a small memory leak that was noted.

Could someone please provide a link for the download. I can find it - why ????

Are you a Subscriber?

If so, you should be able to get to it from the AutoDesk Subscription Center.
Here's my link, but without the Subscription, you probably can't get to it
http://revit.autodesk.com/Building/8.1/common/download.asp?en-us

Moderators - if I'm not supposed to link here, go ahead & slap me down.

I've hit a problem with uninstalling my old Revit so that I can install the new build.
The windows installer is asking me to find the source 'Autodesk Revit.msi' before it will allow me to uninstall.

Now, I've had this problem before with other applications, and it was a simple matter of browsing to the temp folder where the .msi file was found. But when I browse for 'Autodesk Revit.msi' and select it, it doesn't accept the file and asks again.

Any ideas on how I can get past this?

When you say temp directory do you mean C:\Program Files\Autodesk Revit Building 8.1\Download or your local temp directory?

Sorry, I meant under the Local Settings folder for my windows profile. I have tried the Download folder too.

I had that same problem and it really peeved me off...

My solution was to delete the folder and install in Administrator mode... Technically all the registry settings are still there for that previous build but everything appears to be working... Apart from some weird interference i have with my Quickbooks timer...

HTH.

Oh ****. I deleted the current Revit install manually from the Program Files folder and then tried to reinstall, but still won't let me install. So now I have no Revit installed.
When installing, I can't uncheck the tick next to Revit 8.1 in the dialog asking which previous versions to uninstall.

Spot: I'm already an administrator user.

If Adesk are reading this, is there anyway to manually (including the registry) to remove the check that the install is doing?

I need to get this back on the computer.

Do a search of the Autodesk knowledge base, I recall a little patch that would remove earlier version registry entries, back around 6ish to 7?

Thanks Steve, I've just done a few searches and can't pull anything up.

I have attached a screenshot of the error in the hope it may spark something else.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, but a big thanks goes out to my reseller Karel*CAD for suggesting to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301) which helped to clean out all installer info for the previous Revit 8.1 install.

I think this little app is a keeper for future times when the MS installer plays up again.

Just trying something different to freshen the interface up.
Personally, I think the Mac 'look' is the cleanest around.

I most certainly agree! A friend of mine just got a new PowerBook with the Tiger OS and it's AWESOME. Check it out...

Yep. Fantastic OS, and way ahead of MS. I'm delaying any future computer purchase until Apple has the Intel based systems out. Hopefully, they will then let me run the Autodesk stuff stuck on Windows via dual boot and then switch to OS X for everything else. (If they get their fast switching system to flip between OS X and XP, they will have a Windows killer on their hands.

Apple has so far said that they wouldn't do anything to keep people from doing just as you wish.

Now, Microsoft, on the other hand, hasn't said that it would let people do such a thing, and have a loooong history of making things run 'flaky' or slow when it's used in situations that they don't want to look positive...

(but I'm waiting as well, actually. Very excited about the MacIntels)

Don't tell P.Read but I actually quite like it ;-) Download object dock 1.2 for the complete experience. The only thing I haven't been able to work out how to do is put the taskbar along the top like OSX and if you can actually have the min/max/close buttons on the left hand side of windows.

If I'd been able to do that I was going to post a screen shot claiming I was running Revit successfully on the OSX/Intel beta that is floating around on BitTorrent ;-)) Now that would have been an interesting thread.... ;-)

If nothing else it makes you realise just how frigging boring winXP is.

Guy

ps: Oh yeah, anyone figured out the bug fixes yet on this build.

And here (http://www.osx-e.com/) is a great site for all Mac emulation info and software.

If you did that I'd have to run Revit within a VNC window inside of Enlightenment R18 just to show off (and claim that I'd gotten the special 'leaked' Linux version).

If you think that fly a kite thing is impressive, check this out: http://www.eyeos.org/

As for bug fixes... no. I haven't noticed anything.

Great desktop!! And even better "you've got nothing to do" ;-) Chad, care to share exactly what you've got running to get that look? In particular how did you get the taskbar up the top?

Guy

ps: I wonder if we could make Revit talk to a desklet/widget.

Guy,

Is this just a double click install? Or do I have to do lots of installs and tweaking? I have been wanting to do exactly this for some time now, but didn't want to "stuff" my system . . . but, just love the mac interface!

If you don't like it just uninstall and you'll be back winXP theme. Note, I'm new to this but it seems to be working quite well.

What are the fixes in the new build of Revit 8.1?

mmodernc
2005-11-17, 07:14 PM
Maybe I missed something but why does my 8.1 give me the old build number when I install the latest build. Is this this registry thingo. How dangerous is that Windows cleanup utility if it is diving into the registry and warns that it may affect other programmes.
