Linked files - Surface patterns

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn off roof surface patterns on linked files? I have spanish tile roofs, which I want hatched on my individual model but not in the master site plan where I have linked the models. The scale is so tight they just print black.

Not that I know of.
We really need the same sub-object control for linked files, that we get for a regular file.

I will also add that it is this reason that I try and keep using linked files to a bare minimum.

I haven't done an example with the roofing yet, but I know that with Materials, the definition of the file being linked has control over the material definitions in the base (site) file. I wonder if this is the same for the control of visibility. Could it be as simple as turning off the visibility graphics in the file before linking in? This would be the step I would take. If that doesn't work, try making sure the V-V is turned off in both files. It's like a bad 3-way switch in my apartment's hallway.
