View Full Version : Lost Work

Just been doing some work, got a fatal error and lost what work I had done for the past few hour's. Like a F'ing idiot I didn’t save when prompted to (just caught up in what I was doing I suppose), and I can see everything I have done in the journal file.
I don’t think there is but does it Revit produce backup file like acad.
Any information would be helpful.
Lesson learnt by this fool, and the moral of the story is always save when given the opportunity.

Paul,
Find the joural file in C:\Program Files\Autodesk Revit 6.0\Journals
that corresponds to time you first started the revit session you want to recover. Should be near the top and very large as you were working for several hours. Drag it onto the revit icon on the desktop. Then sit back and watch the show
It should be able to recover most of what you lost.

Chris, how the hell do you know that? What a great tip (is it in the tips 'n' tricks-if it is sorry I shouldn’t have been so lazy).
Unfortunately it couldn’t run the journal to completion, it say the file may be unstable. But thanks anyway, that's one I'll have to remember for the future.

All knowing, all seeing (probably all reading  ) Chris,
I've never had to utilize the journal feature and I'm just wondering if you can actually edit it before running it?
If you know the last command issued is the culprit can you go into the file, delete the offending command and then run the file?
(of course, like a good boy I would first create a copy of the journal file before trying this)

Dimitri, already thought of that and tried it, unfortunately it didn't work.
Maybe because my fill may be corrupted in some way, not tried it with a kosher .rvt, might be worth a try. You never know.
Would be nice if you could though.

I'm re-working an old project, it seems the client can't be satisfied with any of the eleventeen major revisions he's done, so I'm re-working a v5 model in v6.
I keep getting fatal errors up the ying yang lately. I'm wondering if I should just start over. Why all the fatal errors all the sudden?

Kroke, send it to support. They will get it straightened out. It usually has to do with a constraint or dimension that needs to be deleted.

OMG, I just downloaded the latest one off the net to re-install (fresh re-format a couple of days ago)...
Fatal error within Revit just launching the program, every time...

Ha! Used to be a Windowblinds user myself. I had my Windows NT box looking just like OSX. *Sigh*
