Revit API

I just read this article that talks about importing excel room data's from an existing excel spreadsheet to fill out the Revit Schedule using the new Revit API.
From here, Revit can create room without you have to build any wall.
Does anybody know how it works and the steps that lead to the right result?
Is Revit API a plug in? Do we have to purchase it separately?
I would love to run a test on this option and see how it works.

FYI, you cannot create the room elements with the API. They have to be created before you run the command. But, you can then import all the parameter information you need, Name, etc.

Most everything else you need is in the other thread.
