I am meeting with a client in the morning. I need to correct this problem. I have a two story building with an interior "L-shaped" stair leading from the first level down to the basement level. The stair is laid out correctly and looks great. I have cut an opening in the first level floor for the stairwell. A portion of the stair should be hidden by the first floor level. However, The entire stair is visible on the first floor level. I cannot figure out how to hide the portion of the stair that should be out of view.

I hit this same problem about 4 months ago, and it was very iritating.
I didn't find a solution either, so I'd be keen to hear others ideas too.

I thought that problem had been fixed in 6.0 ( ?? ... will check later )

As a down n dirty workaround, can you use a filled region to cover the visible riser/ handrail lines ?

Just did a quick test in 6.0 and it looks like it has been fixed in that release.

So, if you're using 5.1, you'll need the filled region.

I am using 6.0. Are their any visibility settings I should adjust or verify?
The filled region will certinly help, but I would like to understand and fix the problem. Thanks

Other than checking that you're not accidently in wireframe view ... no. Can't think of anything that would cause that.

beegee, Bless your heart. I came into the office this morning, looked at the drawing settings. That was my problem. How stupid of me. I just did not think about that. I'm printing my drawings for my client now.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

Just a quick note, any stairs that were upgraded from 5.1 that had the visibility problem will still have the problem in 6.0 until they are recreated using a 6.0 stair style. We had a large building with 10 stairs and 2 of them had this problem. When we upgraded they still had the problem. Copying the stair style and recreating the stair fixed the problem.

My stairs get cut by the cut plane fine on the first floor and whatever is on top of it is shown w/ hidden line, but on the second floor I cannot make the stairs coming from the first floor show hidden or show the cut plane, with a plan region lowered on that area on the second floor I'm able to get the cut plane and the hidden line but the opposite way it should be shown (I get hidden line from the second floor to below and solid line way at the bottom, it should be the other way on the second floor, solid first and hidden following).

By the way it's Revit 6.1 latest built and it's not doing it automatically, I even downloaded the Revit 6 stairs samples file from the autodesk web library of Revit and checked those stairs on the second floor view, they are the same way as the ones I created.

Please let me know if somebody knows how to make these stairs loo right.

I am having the same issue in Revit 2008, but creating a new project works fine. The file i am having trouble with was originally created in 9.1, wander if that has anything to do with it.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Check to make sure you don't have the basement loaded as an underlay. Don't ask me how I know to check that. And don't ask me how long it took me to check it. ;)

I'm having this same problem. Anyone know how to have the stairs introduce a cut line when viewed from the upper level? Currently the lower level has a cut line with risers above shown hidden. However, the upper level displays the full run(s).

Have a Similar problem!!!! - The Stair spans from Level 1 to level 2. There is an opening it shows in section correctly. However, in a level 2 Plan the stair will not show up even with cut at 2 foot and view depth and bottom set to unlimited??

So is this another oops by Revit - sorry you pay us over $50,000 a year for your companies licenses but we just have not gotten to the point of making stairs show up correctly in plan !

I used to absolutely love Revit but the more I work with it the more angry I get!!

For the record, the bug in 2008 is "solved" by changing the Color Scheme in the View Properties to None. If you're working on a color plan, you have to put a color filled region over the area to hide the lines.

I have the same problem that the stair to the level below shows through the floor. We are doing cd's so we cant change the view to a hidden line or all of the 2d annotation like wall ratings or any 2d xrefs get's hidden.

I have checked visibility settings and everything else already mentioned here. The masking region doesnt work because it masked the stair run to the level above which runs over this stair to the level below. these are straight run sections not a switchback.

Any more suggestions?

Hidden line mode shouldn't hide annotations. When you say xref, do you mean a CAD import?

yes. I have accepted the hidden line mode and made the proper adjustments to my plan views. I was using some model lines previously which get hidden in hidden line mode.
