Got a situation here where revised grading using the "graded region" tool is going to be lower than the existing grade. We'd like to see both existing and new contour lines, but because the new grades are lower, they are obscured by the existing topo.

Without using wireframe mode or drawing detail lines, is there a way this can be done?

check your phase settings. The new graded surface should have been created in the current phase automatically and the old surface marked as created in the previous phase and demolished in the current phase. By setting the view's phase filter not to show demolished, you should not see the prior surface.

Ah, but you see, we want to... we want to be able to compare both sets of grades... so if we could make the existing/demolished grade transparent in the plans, we would be alright...

Maybe this will work...

Set the phase to show only the existing topo.

Export it out as an acad .dwg

Set the phase to show the completed topo.

Place a level above your topo.

Go to that level & import & align the acad topo exported above.

Set the view range of this level to pick up the topo below.

Sort of Martin's method for transparent fills.
