Surface pattern of exposed internal wall layers

It seems that if I unlock layers of a wall and pull the layers down so that some of the wall's internal layers are exposed, it does not display that internal layer's material surface pattern. Is the only fix for me to manually paint the exposed surfaces with the desired pattern? :(

Yes or used stacked walls, I don't think revit intended you to see the surface of internal layers.

I've noticed this too. This needs to be a wishlist item! If you can lower certain layers (and thereby expose the surface of the inner layers) it should display correctly! Not a huge deal, but needs to be fixed in my opinion...
