I am using AutoCad 2002 and I recently was experimenting with 3D objects. My problem is with zooming and viewport in a layout in paper space. In the past while in paper space I could zoom down to a section in a view port, switch to model space and edit.

The problem that has developed is now the zooming is all strange. I select a zoom window in paper space and it does not zoom down all of the way to the area that I select. It is like there is a minimum zoom amount. Also if I pan with the window sliders things really go crazy. The area in the viewport grows/shrinks when I move the slider.

The drawing that this is occuring in has 4 othe layouts that the zooming still behaves as before. I have deleted this layout and recreated a new one and the problem just follows.

What has happened??

Hi

Can you please post an example drawing file, that demonstrates the behaviour you have described above ( so we take a look at the issue / problem first-hand ).

Have a good one, Mike

AutoCAD (at least through 2004) can only zoom so far without a regen, I'm not sure why. The workaround is to type "RE" when your zoom stops, then you should be able to continue zooming.

The layout labeled badlayout is an example of the problem. I am a beginner and I was experimenting with 3d to do elevations. I created a seperate floor plan and was extruding walls and cutting doors and windows with the 3d add, subtract and other tools. These have since been deleted and the file purged to remove what ever I could. In the other layout you can set the mode to paper space, zoom down as far as needed aand the switch to model space and edit what you need to. The Badlayout will not allow the zooming in paper space. It acts all screwy. Nice technical term huh. :) Now I have to see about adding the attachment.....

This problem will not even zoom down one level correctly, while the other layouts in the same file zoom down a long way as far as I can see..

it might just be that I am in 2005 or I dont fully understand your question, It seems to zoom just fine for me.

It works just fine in A2006.

Let's try this another way. When on the Badlayout and in paper space I try to zoom down to a section of the viewport (also still in paper space). On all the old layout pages it works just fine. In any layout I create since experimenting with 3D the zooming does not zoom. For example I select zoom window and draw a window around about a 10'x10' section of the drawing. When the zoom occurs it is only about a 10-20% reduction of the overall drawing, not the 10x10 section.

On all the older layouts it is fine, just on any new ones i have created. I was able to copy one of the previous layouts and get the zoom to work okay in the copy.

In general what type of parameters or variables could be set wrong that would create a problem like this? When you first attempt 3D does AC add and/or change parameters?I understand AC has MANY variables but a starting point would help.
Thanks

Hi

For what it is worth, I get the same results as "ccowgill" and "johnbogie" ( above ) ie

I am able to Zoom without problem in the "BadLayout" layout tab.

I will Open the file in AutoCAD 2002 ( same version you are using ) tomorrow and see what happens.

Have a good one, Mike

Draw a line crossing the viewport, it is hidden under the viewport, funny the viewport act like a wipeout.

Well, activate the viewport by double-clicking inside it and do
Command: _shademode 2 ( turning shademode off )
Return to paperspace and zoom to the atoms..

: ) Happy Computing !

Kennet,

Thank you for the solution. Now I have to figure out how a variable that I did not know about got changed....
