Does anyone have experience on how to create a clay tile roof or the look of a Clay tile roof in Revit? More important for elevations than anything! What have you found to be the best way to show it?

Thanks

I just use a hatch pattern and then paint the fascia with the same pattern, then tab on the fascia patern and rotate it 180 and move it into position.

I have some hip and ridge tile families to put on the hips and ridges, but rarely do as they don't update automatically, you can put host sweeps on your ridges and hipps if you don't mind them just being round instead of stepped, they look good enought with a pattern on them.

Heres an example of the quick way. Another trick is to create a second roof for just the finish and you can make it overhange the cornice. I'll probably do this in CD's But while the models evolving less is more. If you want really nice, use the tile families and array them as needed. Its a lot more work and at the end of the day you point to a tile and call it out, you really just need a representation of it to point to. I used to go way overboard modeling this type of thing and the first time you change your roof, you'll be moving little tiles around, so this sweep method satisfies me currently.

Thank you. It think we will just leave it plain for now because you are right, less is better for stuff like this until you have the roof nailed down. Our project is just beginning Schematics so we can wait.

I wish they would do something to help with roofs for things like this as well as for flashing.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi everybody

My work around for doing the roof edge is using a railing.I create a profile that looks like a roof tile and that works, the only thing is that it makes the project very slow.

FERNANDO HOW DID YOU DO THIS?

I don't care about for a rendering at this point I just want it to look good in our elevations. We have some very picky Architects in our office and they are never happy with the Revit Elevations. This Tile roof problem is juist going to make it worse!

i made a family of 3d tiles roof hosted
first i draw a roof of 2 parts
the generic one with the general slope
than a horizontal one all around where i attach the 3d tiles (0 slop)
use a usual roof hatch in model to the 2d drawing's
and a material with a roof stile
the ridge is a roof fascia profile with the same material

hope u understand

I created a hosted profile family and used the fascia tool to apply a clay tile to the hips and ridges. That worked well, although, it looks as if you cannot control any parameters of the profile such as angle, which is needed for different pitches for some profiles. But aside from that, it works fine.

My problem is that I applied a material to it, 'Clay Roof Tile.pat' and tried to use sbrowns method of rotating the pattern. This won't work on my profile. I can't get it to rotate, and yes, it is a model pattern.

Any suggestions?

Thanks guys.

Clay Roofing is centuries old and with the passage of times some improvements and innovations have been included in its formation. If you ever feel interested in clay roofing, you can get the requried information from the experts on clay roofing in India. But before you finalize about the kind of roofing, you should certainly be aware of the pros and cons of the particualr type of roofing.
