View Full Version : 6.1 is so Slow!!!

Maybe it is just me, but versions 6.1 is running incredibly slowly on my machine. I can almost take a bathroom break in between commands. It feels like I am running an old IBM 286. Something is really wrong. When I load up 6.0 things are running fast and smooth again. I have Open GL acceleration turned off in 6.1. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I can assure you it is quite painful.

Harware acceleration? It was supposed to be fixed, and you may still have it turned off for 6.0???

What are the machine specs?
Is it slow with a large model?
How much memory is it using?
Do you have other programs running simultaneously?

Just 6.1 running,
Only the template file open,
1330 AMD
768 DDR Ram

With only 6.1 running 3,000 k mem ory and 50,000 k Virtual memory

No problems here

1.3MHZ is a very slow processor for revit.

Well, not very slow...

What about the video card?

sbrown, with AMD it's a little different; a 1330 AMD is about the same as a 1.5 Intel. Still a little slow for Revit, however. ;)

The funny thing is that it runs great on 6.0. I only have the problem running 6.1

We have 1.4 gig machines in the office with people trying to run revit on them and as soon as the project gets any detail to it they become too slow to be productive on. For a very simple building no site info your ok with that processor, but I wouldn't want to try too meaty a project.

I too am experiencing slowness. Every action is jerky and delayed.

No delays here. Hardware Acceleration set to "full". NVidia Quadro card. 2.8 P4, Gig of Ram

I didn't notice and difference btw 6 and 6.1. P1.7 Quadro 512 ram. But we still cannot use hardware accell. since 6. Do not know what happened but when accel is on the drawing window does not update. ie. trails, leftover desktop display etc. We have been working with accell off for 2 months now and haven't really seen a big problem. Sometimes the 3d display is slow to redraw but we use it less than the other views which 95% of the time redraw just fine.

I sure hope they figure out what they did to 6.0 and higher in terms of graphics. Any machine that we get that has new video drivers(ATI and others) on our new dell desktops and laptops can't even open revit, it crashes as soon as it trys to draw a window. So we have to turn off hardware accelleration or use old drivers.

Is there any official explanation of the hardware accel issue? I've had the same problem and fix since release 6. Revit seems to work fine without it, however AutoCAD mouse response is jerky. I end up toggling acceleration on and off.

Is this an issue in the code? Or do I just need more video horsepower to have accel turned on? (32mb Nvidia Geforce 2 Go)

Where do I look to see if I have hardware acceleration on/off? Is it anywhere on the Video Card settings? (see attached)

Thanks

Henry, at that window go to troubleshooting. You should find it there.

Guys, you are not helping.

So far you said that NVidia runs fine. We know that. ;-)

What card do you experience slowness on?
What's the OS?
Is "Use OpenGL acceleration" in Revit options on or off?
At what level is hardware acceleration in control panel?

Thanks Allen, I think I looked everywhere except there - it was set to Full.

I have 3.2 Ghz w/ 1 GB Ram, nVidia Geforce4 Ti 4200, Windows XP, Open GL enabled and hardware acceleration set to Full. I don't notice any slow down.

Your right, this is not helping. I'm opening a special thread in the hardware forum for graphic cards / configs. that work and cards/ configs that are having issues. Please post all graphics releated slowdown issues there.

Just a follow up, I reinstalled the original ATI Radeon driver from the cd and now Revit 6.1 runs great.
