I'm thinking of buying a book and/or online video tutorials that cover the most essential things in Revit and also goes deep into specific subjects like families. So far I've used the Autodesk Revit 8.1 Metric tutorials that got me well underway, but when i want to build something more complex, I'm pretty much stranded. These are the only books and online tutorials I've found on the net.

Books

Mastering Autodesk Revit Building by Paul F. Aubin
Autodesk Revit Building 8 for Architects and Designers by Sham Tickoo
Introducing & Implementing Autodesk Revit Building by Lay Christopher Fox, James J Balding
Introduction to Autodesk Revit Building 8 by Dan Stine

Online

DgCad
Scott onstott

Any recommendations?

I don't think Paul Aubin's book has been released yet. I haven't seen it, so I cannot comment on it. I will recommend the Fox/Balding and recommend adding Cyril Verley's Implementation books to your list. There's one on Revit Fundamentals and another on Commercial projects. They are available at www.cdvsystems.com. They are excellent books and go in depth into many topics you are probably looking for (i.e., family creation).

I am a residential and light commercial architect.
Ranking 1 to 5, 5 being the best. I have purchased:

1. Residential Design using Autodesk Revit 7.0 by Daniel Stine (SDC). 4
2. Autodesk Revit 5 Basics: Arch Mdlng & Docmntn by Moss Brown Fox (SDC) 4
3. Introduction to Autodesk Revit 5 by Daniel Stine (SDC) 3.5
4. Autodesk Revit Building 7 for Arch and Dsgnrs by Sham Tickoo (CADCIM) 5
5. Introd & Implmntng Autodesk Revit Building by Fox, Balding (Thomson) 5
6. Introductory Courseware for Revit 6.1 (CDV) 4
7. Advanced Courseware for Revit 5.1 (CDV) 4

I have subscribed to DgCad.com (awesome and excellent value) 5

I have purchased Scott onstott's video series on Revit 5.0 (excellent) 5

Hope that helps you. DgCad is really the cheapest and is testable because you can download some of the training for free. I find them excellent. I am a visual learner and find it easier for me at times to watch someone do something. On the other hand

I loved Mastering Autocad by Omura because it was a bible like text
where you could get real deep on the functions you wanted to.
Sham goes deep on some stuff but not deep enough. Cyril goes deep but its real dry and he leaves alot of stuff out unlike Omura with his Autocad books.

One other note I forgot to add. Have you printed out or do
you have the pdf file for the tutorials Revit puts out for
the software itself?

Often I jump to others because I think the software manufacturer
is good at one thing, software. And book writers are better at
explaining how to use the stuff software guys make.

However, I am regularly referring to the Tutorials Revit created
and use Reader 7.0 or later (don't use versions less than 7.0) to
review same. Reader's search function is awesome and frankly
the Tutorials Revit created are as well.

Thats not to say I have not gotten great value from those books I
have mentioned, but I now when I have questions, i first search the Tutorials then the videos (Onstott or DgCad), then the books, and then
the Autodesk discussion group for Revit, then the Augi forum.
