hello guys, i just started here at a new place for more than 4 months. after 1.5 months an additional hard drive was installed to my pc. ever since i have experience network lagging, slowness, loose connections to server, plotters, etc. and my boss says to log off, but for sure i know that is not the case. i have to restart in order to work properly again. he has been working on my pc and he says everything is ok. the bad thing is that i can't do squat, cuz i do not have any access. he is the only one. he changed the network cables, and still. any ideas on what shall i do? it has gotten to the point that i can't take this no more!
-thanks

Hi RCA4697
Please note I have *moved* this thread from the Cad Management General Forum to this one as I believe it would be better served here.
Thanks,

Was it a brand new hard drive that was installed? Or perhaps it was a slowerone recycled from another system?
What are the specs of your computer?

I have experienced the same issue. I have since dropped both hard drives and purchased a large capacity hard drive that runs at 7200rpm. No more master/slave drives for me.

Specs are:
windows xp pro.
version 2002
service pack 2
pentium(r) 4 3.20GHz
1gb of ram
currently running 2005 lt
and yes the hard drive is new. it is being used as a back up for the main server. our company is small. only approx 10 people.

Is Your company server running some kind of automatic backup software or do they just dump the files from the server onto your hard drive as required. If this hard drive is for backing up to Why isnt it installed on your server rather than having it in your machine?
If you are running some kind of backup program off the server it may be whats causing the lag and slowness on your computer. Do any other users access this harddrive? Or is just for backups? There may be alot of traffic to and from the computer over the network and this is causing the slowdown.
In addition i recently installed a nsecond hard drive on my machine here at work to test this out and ive gotten the same results. A big a$$ slowdown in the machines speed. I's disable the harddrive in device manager and try booting with it disabled and see if theres a speed difference. That way youll know for sure if its the hard drive or another problem.

1) that's the way the boss set it up for.
2) just for backups, and no, no one else access it while im working.
3)ill try to check that out. don't know if i have access.
also how about the loosing connection to the server every day?
