I've been playing with the ability to turn on and off objects in families parametrically in 6.1. Very cool stuff! Whoever added that to the wishlist should be commended!
So here's a new family for an exit sign. It's a ceiling based family, and displays the actual sign in 3D. In floor and RCP, it displays the circular symbol with four quadrants. Each of the four quadrants have a fill, which can be turned on and off to display the directional arrow symbols for the exit sign. The parameters are Quad 1 On, Quad 2 On, etc., so any combination of arrows can be turned on/off.
Enjoy!

This will work great. Is there any chance you could do a wall mount version? Thanks

Scott,
Is there a way to use this exit sign on the bottom of a slab? I don't have ceilings in every space since we are exposing the bottom of the concrete floor.

Without having looked at the family you would probably need to modify it to a face based family instead of ceiling based. You can then attach it to any surface.

upon trying to load this exit sign file into my ceiling plan, it pops up some window with a warning but doesn't stay opne long enough to even read. when i attempt to use a symbol from the family it doesn't look right at all. no circle with quadrants just a thin rectangular rectangle.
now it doesn't load at all just keeps popping up a window that says "family is not of the correct category" which an exit sign LIGHT not being part of LIGHTING category confuses me a bit.

You can open the family itself in the family editor and change the category. The original family was created as 'specialty equipment' and not a 'real' light

hi guys,
I am using revit 2010 and I am trying to use the exit sign attached on the thread but for some reason after I load it into the project it doesn't attach to the model, it gives me the indication that it doesn't find a host and also it's not giving me the option to choose whether attach it on a vertical or horizontal face.
thanks

That file was created back in version 6.1, which is close to 5 years ago. At that time only a ceiling based family was available. It is not possible with that family to make if faced based without completely rebuilding it.
Are you trying to attach it to a cieling? From what I can see in the picture provided by Scott is that this family is ceiling based.

Hey Scott, I just found your Exit Sign and it works great, but I'm not sure that can see the arrows that you mentioned.
Thank you,
Ljubica
