didn't expect to see this so soon!!! I'd maybe this ability will show up in Revit 9 by the time it hits the shelves?!

Yep! They demo'd it here at AU...pretty darn cool! No reason now not to take a model started in ADT some time ago, and bring it into Revit to finish it up! Or to bring in your ABS files inot Revit, or....

An interesting one might be to have Inventor Files imported to Revit through IFC...design your porduct in Inventor (as many manufacturers do) and then bring those into Revit as a fully parametric family! This could really open the door to manufactutres providing content, and many already have the Inventor file for their own production.

Can't see it happening like that for a number of reasons:

1.. that fancy new basin you've just released in America can be instantly copied by some sweatshop manufacturer in China and sold back in the USA within weeks. I still don't see manufacturers going for carbon copy releasing of manufacturing info.

2.. The Inventor file will included significantly more information than we need in architecture. Do we need to have correctly modeled draft angles and radii down to 2mm on edges? Watch for file size blow out if that happens.

3.. Families stll don't provide for any form of security and protection of IP.

I think this is just weird. Here are 2 divisions within Autodesk that each develop with 2 kernals owned and developed by Autodesk, they have access to the source code of each application. And yet they need a 3rd party format to provide high level translation between the 2 applications. Weird.

Any other hints on V9 functionality coming out?

Frick. I'd be happy is I could just export an AutoCAD 2000 dwg without corruption. We've been having so many issues, I don't even trust the simplest of exports with 8.1.
