try join geometry between the wall and column, but there may be phase issues that would mess this up.

You need to add the fill in the column family. I have posted an example. It also works better if it is a structural column because then the column does not take on the property of a wall (structural Column poche).

I have created a seperate (column poche) file that when inserted into the actual column file will create your desired look.

It may be well known, but I think it is worth mentioning again:

Architectural columns automatically join to overlapping walls. This is why they take on the wall's structure.
However, this join can be manually removed by the "Unjoin Geometry" tool .

Simply select Tools->Unjoin Geometry and click on the column.

Sweetshelby, your alias evokes images of GT350's and GT500's. Might we have another Mustang fan in our midst?

I've downloaded and tried the attached family above, but the Graphic Overrides for the Existing phase force the poche to be grey instead of black. Is there a way around that?
