I have been sent a file to create a 3D visualization from. The walls are all made of polyface meshes. I believe I need to get them down to polylines in order to extrude my 3D objects. As far as I can tell the only way to do this is to trace a polyline over the vertices of the polyface mesh. I was wondering if you knew a better strategy for accomplishing this.

I don't know if this will help you but there is a lisp routine M2S.lsp that creates solids from open meshes. It is freely available on the net.

Hi "tatchley" ( Sorry, I do not know your real name )

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD General (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=120) forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

Your signature indicates you have VIZ 4.

If it is 2D / 3D ACAD drawing, you can simply export it into VIZ and edit it there. I would recommend doing as much editing in VIZ as opposed to ACAD, as this is easier and in the end, much quicker, and only use ACAD to ensure accuracy if that is required.

If it is a closed polyface mesh the M2S.lsp will no work for you. You need STL2CAD or STL2SOLID to accomplish this. I have it and I can turn your mesh to a solid if you like. Otherwise you can find it at www.stefisko.com (http://www.stefisko.com/) cost is around $60.
