Newbie family alignment question

I am attaching a gate valve I have been racking my brain over for far too long. I had most of the bugs worked out until I tried to attach the handle (sweep) to the rod (extrusion). The handle won't stay attached when I flex the wall thickness. Could someone take a look at this and see what I am doing wrong.

Here's one fix.

I got rid of the parameters you added related to wall thickness. & locked the profile of the sweep to a ref. plane locked a fixed distance from the placement side of the wall.

All your parts are relative to the placement side of the wall, so they flex with the wall when it's thickness changes.
