Brick arches

I went to AU and have done several tutorials and looked at video tutorials. I have need of doing brick archways over an entryway about 8 feet wide. I haven't seen anything specific about that subject. The arches will need to be surrounded by brick soldiers, possibly two rows thick at the top and sides.

I keep reading about "in- place families" but don't know exactly what that is. Can anyone give some advice?

I've just found the quickest way is to extrude the brick soldier profile along the selected path of the arch. Then, while still in the sketch mode, I draw in the joints with model lines. It would still be nice to have a brick arch tool or at least the ability to do wall sweeps along an arch.
