View Full Version : Roof Ball Cap-Ing and Not 45 degreeing off same pitch corner

I have created a hip roof with equal pitch on all exterior edges
and the same distance 2'-0" from all walls.
I get a ball cap edge where the system on its own determines
that the roof line should continue lower about 2 - 3 feet back
from the hipped corner.
I also get it arbitrarily picking valley connections to both
roof edges.
I have deleted the roof and started over with the same result.
HELP.
Here are 2 photos of what I am referring to. I think these pictures
might help you understand what I am referring to.

A few things to check;
Align all your roof eaves.
And check the offset from plate in the properties of each eave.
Other then that if you have same pitch and overhang you should not have that problem.

This occurs when you mix the placement of the sketch lines. An example of this is you use the pick wall tool on some and then use the line tool on others and what happens is what you are showing in your images. To correct this simply select the roof and then select edit in the option bar and then select from the design bar on the left the align eaves tool and then pick one of the lines that represents the correct eave height first then select the ones that do not match and that should take of it.
Of course someone else beat me to the answer.
Hope that helps,

You may also want to consider making separate correct roofs for each area, and then cutting/joining them together. When Revit misbehaves (or me) this is what I do, and it is actually closer to how a roof like that is built on site. It is way faster than beating your brains trying to get the model to think for/like you. Use the opening tool from the modeling menu, and/or adjust your valley lines accordingly at 45/22.5d, etc. Also, be aware the join roofs tool is very particular about joining when a face or a tiny portion of a roof misses a target roof plane.
Let us know how it works out.

Thanks tons,
Rodney you hit it on the head. I had sketched with the pick wall
tool and then added extra lines.
JTF and Rodney were right on the mark as well. My eave lines
were all over the place. The align tool did the magic somewhat
but I still had some problems.
I then according to Rodney's lead erased the whole thing and
then only used the line tool and not a blend with the pick wall
tool. She worked like magic.
I liked your idea Bill, I think that is the next step in me being
a more mature Reviteeer.
Thanks, everyone. You guys are awesome.

thought I would include proof that Augi help works.
You can see from the attached that ball cap-ing and
the valleys all came together as they should.
Thanks again.
