Thanks TD,

I know you are extremely busy! To take time out to put together the list shows your dedication to the users. If others only knew how much you had on your plate the last week or so... 8)

I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU TATJANA!

IS VERY GOOD (IN LONG TERM TOO..) FOR EACH PROJECT TO BE REVISED FOR SMALL GLITCHES, WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS.

WE, ARCHITECTS, HAVE MANY GLITCHES TOO, SO WE HAVE TO FIX THEM AND MARK THEM UP SOMEHOW, OTHERWISE OUR ENGINEERS WILL KILL US, AND NO BUILDING COULD BE DONE.

THAT'S THE REASON THAT WE USE ----REVISION CLOUDS----

FULL OF THEM EVERYWHERE WE DID A CHANGE TO ESTABLISH A GOOD, QUICK, PRODUCTIVE COLLABORATION.

FOR US, TO AD REVISION CLOUDS IS THE EASIEST TASK!
I'M SURE THAT EVERYONE FROM THIS FORUM KNOW THAT THIS IS THE MOST BASIC TASK, THAT WE HAVE TO DO EVEN IS ANNOYING TO KEEP A GOOD FLOW OF INFORMATION BETWEEN US.

SO WE REALLY NEED THOSE REVISION CLOUDS (TXT, HTML, CHM, PDF, JPG...FORMAT) FROM YOU.

AGAIN,
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORT TATJANA!

SEE YOU!
next build...

I really appreciate the list, but one question left - does this build save files that are backward compatible w/ other builds? We've got a lot of seats to upgrade and have been burned on that before (Last 2 builds of 8.1 we downloaded). It's important to know if we can upgrade as we wish, or if we must do everyone at once.

Everyone should be on the same build, its usually ok not to be, but sometimes you will have issues, especially on a worksets job.

Good to see a new build, but are we going to see a fix to the exporting problems where the resulting DWG is different to the Revit original?

This is such a huge problem for us as most of our projects are still documented in AutoCAD.
Too much time is spent fixing what Revit should be able to do, and should be able to do well.

Reply to Chad: improvements in DWG export is an ongoing work for our team and hopefully you will be satisfied with the work we are doing for the upcoming release. While we believe to have enough feedback to understand the bigger problems around the export to DWG, would you mind opening a new thread and prioritize the DWG issues that are of biggest concern to you?
thanks

Factory states and i've confirmed that this build creates files that are usable in older builds.

Tatjana & Factory - Thanks for responding. the attention these forums gets from the factory and the responsive conduit to the developers this creates is a major reason my firm is a Revit shop.

Hey -
Maybe this would be cool (?)
What if revit could have an update feature like Windows, or better, something like HTMLkit or Firefox -
so that every time it launches it can quick ping a url and see if there's a new build and if so, display a list of updates included like in this thread and give you a 1-click download/update option. Maybe like windows update, be able to set it to check every night at 3AM so every morning i have the latest build..

would need to be optional, of course, for those cautious ones out there..
an additional feature that would be great would be a rollback to last build, so if we autoupdated something undesirable, we could undo it...

Just kindof thinking-out-loud...so to speak.

Didn't Autodesk had something like that at a certain point, i can't remember how it was called. It was about the whole PointA thing. That applications was picking Autodesk updates but Microsoft as well if i ain't mistaken.
Anybody remember ?

In the early days of Revit, when it was monthly subscription, the program did exactly that. When you started it up, it pinged the homesite, and if there was a more recent build, it let you know....

I´ll be more than happy to start a new thread concerning DWG materials export,
but nobody understood my wish for a simple/clean DWG export.

I would like to export classes of objects/materials under a single instance.
All windows with "name" glass1 to be just a glass1 unity, same with frame1.

Even if this is possible today with a layer/material combo, it´s to cumbersome.
Like trying to make a window legend work with a schedule (piece by piece)

Hi all,

I've got a really strange problem, since I installed this build of Revit over the holidays, now when I start "Quickbooks Timer" the Revit installer starts. If I then cancel the install twice, the quickbooks timer starts.

I suspect a registry error but I'm not sure what?

Any clues or suggestions on how I can fix this, I've tried reinstalling the quickbooks timer which went fine but the revit installer still starts when I try to start the timer.

We have 8 laptop users. Thought all my Christmases had come together when we received 8.1. There had been a problem with license borrowing in 8.0 which meant that although you could borrow the license, as soon as you disconnected from the network, the **** thing wouldn't work.

8.1 came along and this bug was fixed HOORAH!!

Installed build 20051214_2200 and I'm back to where I was six months ago!

The new build installs easily enough standalone on my laptop, but I don't see any way to make a network deployment for easy, automated updating of multiple FlexLM network licensed installations.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks - Rusty

Define easy? There are network deployment tools. The end result is an MSI file that a user can run to silently install Revit. The current deployment does not address several of the Revit.ini settings that we typically like to set for users and this means replacing the Revit.ini file after the installation completes with one that has been adjusted after the first install, either on an admin's PC or whoever does the deployment image creation.

There have been a couple posts here discussing successfully using group policies to deploy Revit.

Hadn't noticed this thread before, but I had a similar problem with VIZ & ADT.
Turned out that the MSI couldn't find a file & thus thought the install was incomplete.
The ironic thing was that the file was a *.BAK file, so it didn't really need it anyway!.
Here's what I did to fix it:
From Add/Remove Programs, run Repair on the offending file (in my case it was VIZ, in yours, its Revit). You should get an error box telling you it's missing a file.
Assuming it's not an important file, like a DLL or a DBX, just create a dummy file with the name of the missing file.
Run Repair once more. Hopefully it will be happy this time & both Installs will be satisfied.

I could never figure out, tho, why one program would kick off an install of a different program. This also happened to us a while ago with ACAD R14. It kicked off our Timecard program. Think that one was related to VBA.

Good luck

Doh, yeah, I'd forgotton that the create network deployment option was buried several steps into the installation process, unlike AutoCAD's installation program which offers the option upfront. Thanks for the reminder, and the revit.ini tip.

We just posted a new build of Revit Building on http://www.autodesk.com/rev itbuilding. The new Build Number is 20060124 2200.

The new build is primarily a service for the localized versions of Revit Bu ilding 8.1. There is one additional issue that has been resolved for the b enefit of all users; the problem that the wall join on one end of a wall ch anges when the other end of the same wall is edited.

WOW Kim,

That was the exact same problem i had (Programs and all). I believe it occured because the server name changed and thus our logins changed and revit was originally installed under administrator and then was later installed under a user login. I tried absolutely everything to resolve this and had no real luck. I found it i let the installer run, revit wouldn't start and i'd need to reinstall it - which you can imagine becomes very annoying.

After 6 months of trying everything i gave up and rebuilt my computer and the problem is gone... Thank god.

There is a windows installer thread here of others that experienced this issue http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=27936&highlight=windows+installer

They managed to resolve theres - I think mine was too far gone.

Try this, at your own risk. To be safe, export any keys before you delete them so you can restore them if needed:

Go to regedit > HKLM > Installer > Products

Once here there will be a list of guids. You must go through these one by one navigating to the Media key. Locate the one that matches the verbage you are being prompted with.
Delete that key but not the whole guid. That will get rid of the prompt.
