I have a situation in which an 18" sq. pre-cast conc. col. is set 6" in a 12" cmu wall (dont worry, images are attached). I have a 6" cmu wall to keep the 12" cmu flush. I have an 8" cmu wall perp. to the 12"/6" cmu wall and aligned with one edge of the col. When the 8" wall intersects the 12"/6"cmu wall the walls do not join as desired and my 18" col. takes on the cmu material.

I have tried different join options and cannot get it to appear correctly.

Any ideas how I can get this to work.
TIA

Use a structural column family instead of a system column family, that ought to solve the problem straight away.

Load the family from the Structural folder in the Autodesk content folder on your machine, wherever it is, and within that, Columns, then Concrete.

It looks like you are using an Architectural Column, not a Structural Column. The Architectural Columns (shown as "Column") in the Basics Design Bar are primarily used for wrapping finish materials.

Thanks to both of you
