View Full Version : Colour/material on AutoCAD mesh?

We've received a canvas roof structure from a consultant in a 3D ACAD file. The roof consists of 3D surfaces. Now, I can import the mesh into Revit without any hassles but I am unable to assign materials or colours in anyway. I've tried changing the colour of the mesh in ACAD and then ticking 'preserve colours' on Revit import but it goes black and white (solids in the drawing have no problem retaining their colour). And, if I try to partially explode the imported drawing, the mesh disappears and I'm left with a bunch of flattened lines.

Any clues here?

TIA

Have you tried making a "roof by face "using Revit's massing tools. You should then be able to assign materials.

If that won't work in the project, try importing the solid into a mass family templete , and then into your project.

Try Settings>Object Styles>Impoted Objects. Hopefully you can adjust the materials there if not I'm not too sure how you would change it other than what Beegee suggested.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had been importing the ACAD dwg into a family (as I still needed to add some things to complete the shade structure). I tried importing it directly into the project this morning and now the colours show up just fine. It's only in when imported into a family that they don't - bug or intended?
