Layer not displaying on toolbar when selected

In other versions of ACAD I could view what layer a particular object/line was on by left clicking on it to highlight it and that layer would be displayed on the layer toolbar. 2006 is not doing that for me it keeps displaying the current layer. Is there a default setting for this or how do I change it if it can be done? Thanks.

SWEET! At least it is still there, now I need to find out how to get it back.....

I've got it! I saw the "similar thread" down below regarding the "PICKFIRST" command and that was the problem. I just did not use the search command more very well.....
