Not sure where to place this question. I have 2006 and 2005 versions running. With AutoCAD 2006 I can work in a file for awhile and then it starts to hangup. I will select an object or type in a command and I will wait and wait and finally it will acknowledge the input. The wait sometimes is over a minute or two. If I open the same file in 2005 the problem never seems to occur. Sometimes 2006 will just hangup and never process the command, even hitting the escape key will not stop it. If I bring up the Window Task Manager it shows that AutoCAD is using 100% of the CPU. I'm running Windows XP Prof. on A Athlon 64 3200+. I have given up on using 2006 most of the time since it hangs up so often.
Has anyone else run into this problem?

Has anyone else run into this problem?I'm going to move this from the Software forum, as I believe it will be better served here, thanks. :)

Just out of curiosity, do you have any service packs installed? (confirming that you are using just plain autocad? not one of the verticals?)

Yes, both Service Packs (1 & 2). Just plain AutoCAD. I do have Revit 8.1 but don't have any issues with it.

Hi

Take a look at the following thread found in the AutoCAD FAQ (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=189) forum...

Drawing slows down, especially while selecting objects. (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=22361)

+

Maybe this thread ( The waiting game when moving/copying objects (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=20095) ).

Have a good one, Mike

We had a similar problem with one of our stations here. We had just received new computers and with them we had installed 2006.

Same exact symptoms, after a period of time there was a performance lag then seizing the system utilizing 100% of the CPU.

We ended up re-ghosting the system and it worked fine. I'll double check with our IT staff and see if they found anything after that.

Hope this helps,

Rick McElvain

Sorry to take awhile to respond. The suggestions given helped. I corrected many of the files I was working in and most of the problems disappeared. 2006 still has issues (at least for me) in tieing up the entire CPU but not as often. Thanks.

Can anyone point me into the direction of finding the links from the aforementioned "Freezing" issues (see mike.perry, Jan 06, 2006). I seem to be having the same problem while using AutoCAD 2007.

The drawings lock up for hours! When I accidentally select an xref (clipped or not) the regeneration process takes longer and longer each time. I selected a xref by accident on Saturday, went to lunch and came back to find that the file had maxed out the CPU (100%) and was running over 1Gb of my 2Gbs of ram.

This nonsense has been occurring for the past couple of weeks and seems to only be getting worse.

Please point me into the right direction or shed some of AUGI's expert advise...

Thanks in advance,

~David :( :(

[ SNIP ]Hi

If you are referring to the Autodesk Knowledge Base Links found in THIS post, I have just finished updating them... they should now be working.

If you are referring to some other links, please report back here.

Have a good one, Mike

I am not sure this is where this belongs, however this thread seems to be the most like my problem. We are running CAD2007 and have recently discovered anchoring the command line. A few of us tried it today and our computers started acting up. Whenever we enter commands and/or try to select objects, the computer pauses like it is thinking. If we un-anchor the command line our computers are fine. Any thoughts?

is dynamic input turned on? if not, that could be the problem

No, our dynamic input is on. Most of us also have on the allow/disallow dynamic USC as well. Anything else you can think of?

I am running slow and I read through all the posted suggestions.
I still cannot seem to figure out what the issue is in my office.
The file sizes are not even 3mb, I have quick redraw settings,
and do not have any third part customizations running.

I am leaning towards either a windows conflict or a network
access issue with some other program.
