I have split a surface into "grass" and "asphalt" areas. In the the "asphalt" surface is showing up in a section even though the limits of the section don't cross that surface.

Have you tried doing an edit on each surface (just open & close an editing session)?
Maybe that'll clear it.
Or, if you did a graded region (invokes phasing), check the phase settings for the elevation. Make sure it's set to the latest phase & the filter is set to "show complete"

Looks like you are seeing the profile of the topo beyond? what is your section field of view depth set to? Are you using a bldg pad?

Andy- Tried editing surfaces and closing with no luck. No graded regions and both topos are "new".
Steve- it is the profile and not cut. The section view depth is set to stay within the building (I have tried going from 500 feet to 1 foot in depth and it stays virtually the same). Tried deleting the pad with no change. Tried deleting the section and creating new with no change.
It blocks any objects beyond in hidden line view as well.

For the h___ of it, open a plan view & the section view side by side. In the plan view highlight & delete each asphalt topo to try & see which one is causing the problem.
Never tried this but maybe this will work.
Once you know which piece is the problem, with the same two views on the screen, go to the plan view, select the problem asphalt, & pick edit. Then go to the elevation view, select & delete any nodes showing, then finish the edit, & see what happens to the ashpalt topo in the plan view.
