Is there a way to select all instances BUT only in the current view?

No. Only method is to window select then use your filter and deselect unwanted elements. Would be nice i suppose. But view ranges would make it difficult for revit to interpret exactly whats in view...

Yes there is a way to select all instances of a specific type.

Have a look at the picture attached.Basically you need to find the family in the project browser and right click on it. And then you deselect what is in your current view.
