View Full Version : Void and Topo Visibility

I have a void in the top level of a new design (will post some images when complete in next week or so) but the topo that is below the lower level is showing through.

I have checked all the visibility settings that I can think of. What should be showing of course is the level below. How can the topo be showing through the level below when there is a ground floor slab? The level below does not have this problem and shows its floor so it isnt the topos surface protruding beyond the ground slab.

Any suggestions?

Funkman,

Are you using a pad to "depress" the topo below your lower floor slab? If not, you might consider that.

Also, verify that you didn't inadvertently delete the lower floor itself.

Ciao!

Christopher, there is no pad - dont need one since the natural ground line is below the lowest level. Also, the topo isn't showing itself in this lowest level.

The floor is definitely there as well in the lowest level see in the 3d looking down into the void.

Any other suggestions?

hmmmm, is the file to large to post ?
( If so, can you extract just the slabs and topo and post that ? )

the file is about 14Mb. How do you extract just some components?

Have you tried turning off the underlay to see if that changes anything?

tried that and no diff :(

What about cutting a section through that area. What does that show ?

Try this , checking after each step :--

1. Turn off Open GL if its on. ( Settings > Options > General > Graphics )

2. Reboot.

3. Open a new blank file in 6.1.

4. Select and copy the topo in the original file to the clipboard.

5. Paste it aligned into the new file.

6. Do the same with each of the floor slabs in turn.

Still a problem ?

OK, I cut and pasted each of the site, plus both floor levels into the new file - and the topos cannot be seen though the void. As well - I dont have OpenGL turned on.
So, hmmmm....how to get this working in the current revit file though?

OK, it sounds like you have a problem upgrading that file, or else its corrupted somehow.

Can you send it to support for them to fix ?

this is interesting - I deleted the floor on the top level, and the whole of the topo can be seen from this level - the file seems to totally ignore the bottom floor slab (yes it is there).

So I thought I would delete this lower floor and rebuild it - and see if the lower floor can be seen from the upper level - but still no good

Just a corrupted file then.

Hopefully support should be able to fix it.

If you havn't done a lot of work on it, you could try going through the backups to get to a good file and working from there.

Thanks for your help again beegee. I have sent it to support. I have a file that was from last Thursday which appears ok - too much info has been lost since then to start again from there (worked throughout the weekend). Hopefully support can fix it. Will advise of outcome.

Hi

I too faced the same problem with one of the project file. When I referred the case to Revit support Team, I was asked to open the file using Revit 6.1 (latest build) and it was fixed automatically. It is obviously a 'bug'.

Please try opening the project file using 6.1 if you have been using 6.0.
If problem persists, refer to revitsupport@autodesk.com by an e-mail and they will help to fix your file corruption.

Best of Luck!

just got the reply back from support....

I just got a reply from the software engineer. He said this is not a bug. Here is what happens:

Objects that are entirely below View Depth level (minus additional 4' in case of floors) are not shown in plan at all. This is why the floor slab of LWR GND FLR NEW did not show up and did not hide the toposurface. On the other hand, the toposurface at one of the corners raises pretty high up, so it makes the threshold.
Besides my solid white filled region workaround, they also suggest some another workarounds which are 1) to change View Depth in the View Range of the GROUND FLOOR plan view to LWR GND FLR NEW or to unlimited; or 2) use Plan Region tool on the void and set different Cut plane Level and Offset.

But here is the kicker...I opened the file this morning to fix as was kindly suggested - and whoa - the problem was gooooone before I did anything!!! I didnt had to do nuttin I swear  :!:
