What to do with an old laptop battery?

Does anyone or has anyone had to disopose of an old laptop battery? I saw I could try to rebuild it but with all the unfinished projects I already have that isnt going to happen.

Any suggestions on what should I do with it? Ultimately I can take it to the transfer station (dump) on specific days but I think that is the last option.

Check with the manufacture. Many have options for recycling their products.

Most shops around town that sell batteries will take your used LIon and Ni-Cad batteries. (These shops sell batteries for emergency lighting, phone, emergency radios, etc...)

Try taking it to an oil change place. Often times they install new batteries in cars and have a recycling program. They do tend to charge for the service so it depends how much of a green thumb you have. I think it is a $5 disposal fee.
