Does anyone have a good technique for laying out sloping structural elements ie as in a hip roof system?

A. use truss families - they'll do the slope for you if built right
B. sloping individual structural members:
1. Cut a section.
2. Place a reference plane in the section at the slope you want the structure to follow.
3. Click on the plane, select properties, give it a name
4. Make a structural framing plan view (or use your floor plan) and open it.
5. On the structural tab, Choose beam, then in the options bar, pick the reference plan you named as the work plane, then just draw the framing plan.
that should get you most of the way there.

Try a search on the subject, as it is well traveled.
