I purchased Acrobat 7 Pro to use the mark-up functionality, but I can't even get the program to create a PDF from inside of AutoCAD.

When using the PDF Maker via the drop down menu and toolbars (from Autocad - AutoCad just hangs with the Plot Progress Dialog box open. When I cancel the sheet, I get an Acad error saying it needs to close. This is true of most drawings I've tried whether the drawing has multiple tabs, multiple viewports, x-refs or no xrefs. BUT...all of those drawings, if saved back to 2000.dwg format, process PDF's no problem.

I also just got a new Xi Computer high end CAD station, loaded up A2K5, and Acrobat 7 - and the exact same thing happens. The PDF Maker also works in every other application I've tried as well as A2K2 but not in A2K5.

I did my research prior to purchasing Acrobat 7, and everything seemed to say that the issues Acrobat 6 had with A2K5 had been resolved. I should also note that the Windows PDF driver does work. But in order to use the mark-up functions, I need to use the PDF Maker.

I appreciate that there are other programs that will create PDF's maybe even better than Acrobat, however, I am looking to resolve this issue to use the functions available only with the Adobe product.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD Plotting (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34) forum to this one...

Why? - This is an Acrobat 7 Pro issue.

Thanks, Mike

I think maybe this should have stayed in the Plotting forum since you said the software itself (PDF Maker) works, except while in AutoCAD. Someone searching for this topic would probably look in "plotting" - but then again, what do I know :-)

Anyway, I'm not familier with this "PDF Maker", but does it open the AutoCAD plot dialog, and let you choose your normal AutoCAD plotting options? Is it just a Windows system printer, or does it create a PC3 file?

Or is this a self contained program that has it's own dialogs, settings, etc.

Is any part of this installed on a network? CTB, PCP, PMP files? Plotting to a network location, etc?

From what I can tell this is only an AutoCAD 2005 plotting problem, and not an Acrobat problem. PDF maker runs in a variety of programs, AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. It does not open the plot dialog box in AutoCAD. If I do open the plot dialog box and plot to the Windows PDF printer, it does work. However, these are really two different things. In order to use the features of Acrobat 7 (PRO), I need the PDF Maker to work.

If anyone reads this who uses A2K5 and Acrobat Pro 7 and has it working with no problems, I'd like to hear about that too. I've posted to several PDF forums as well and haven't read of anyone using the two together, yet all Acrobat literature says they are compatible.

Adobe customer support is all in Spanish in my region - so I wasn't able to get help from them either.

Thanks,

Jason

just a question here, pardon if I'm slow, what do you mean by 'windows pdf printer'?

I haven't installed 7 yet, still using 6 here. :(

I'm referring to the Adobe PDF Converter - Windows System Driver - by Autodesk (found in the control panel - printers directory.

If you're using A2K5 and Acrobat 6, you should be having the same problem. When Acrobat 6.0 came out, it was not compatible with A2K5, in the way that Acrobat did not install the PDF Maker - one click pdf toolbar. This was a documented problem where each company blamed the other.

Jasonalright... I get it... so, this is not using the plot command, this is using the one-click toolbar?

I had 2005 when I got adobe6, but, never noticed the lack of toolbar until someone told me about it. I've never used that shortcut toolbar in any program actually, I either use print or plot from within the program or right-clicking in windows explorer to create my pdf's.
