AutoCAD 2004 - Gradient Hatch feature locks up when circular objects are selected

I am having issues hatching using the gradient feature in AutoCAD 2004. Whenever I attempt to add a solid/gradient hatch to circular objects the program locks up. This also seems to be the case with polyline arcs (closed). Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?

Is there a solution?Out of curiosity, how far are the objects of your hatch away from the origin (0,0,0)?
