View Full Version : Multiple sets and different scales

i am finding, in my 4th project now in revit, that i need to be able to print my sheets at not just fullsize or half size, but also at 11x17 to scale. to get it to scale means i can't just hit scale to fit. and duplicating hundreds of views, changing the scale, and hiding all of the unecessary referencing tags just to place them on different sheets with an 11x17 titleblock is completely out of the question.

my plan at the moment is to make a 22x34 titleblock, replace the titleblocks that are on my crrent sheets with it, and then print at half size. still am unsure if the views will maintain placement as needed or if any extra work will need to be done.

regardless, this is really irritating. anyone have a better solution??

11x17, not being the same aspect ratio as 24x36 or 30x42 is pretty much going to require duplicating views if you want them to print to a scale. Considering that you can't put the same view on more than one sheet, even your 22x34 solution will require duplicating views, unless you plan on making all your titleblocks 22x34 and using that for your full-size sheets on a normal basis.

our office standard is to use 22x34 whenever possible for that exact reason. 1/2 prints come out on 11x17.

I didn't really add to this topic, just making an observation

a 24 x 36 with 1/8" - 1'-0" views plotted at 40% will yield a 9.6 x 14.4 sheet at 1" = 20-'0"

Thats about as close as you are gonna get. Even making an 11x 17 sized titleblock and resetting the scale of all your views isn't going to get you what you want. What fits on a 24 x 36 at 1/8" is not going to fit on an 11 x17 even at 1" = 20'-0".

Paper, Super B Size, 13" x 19", would solve the issue, no?

Anyone have an on-line source of the stuff (like photocopy-quality)? I'm only seeing expensive inkjet photo paper in that size.

i know that my paper supplier will cut any size roll that you want (obviously for a cost). maybe others would be willing to custom cut a roll of paper. then you can print any drawing 1/2 scale and always be to scale.

We have the same problem. We need to show both existing floor plans at 1:30 on 30 x 40's, 1:80 on 11 x 17's, then, proposed floor plans at both scales, then, major and minor remodel areas on both scales. Not to mention, being able to use sheet labels with the same info. It creates quite a mess of drawings.

We have had to create separate titleblocks for multiple situations. Needless to say the browser gets really full in a hurry.

We have also been trying to separate these drawings (presentation style) from the rest of the drawings in the Browser but have not been able to get the clear separation we want.

Hope someone has thoughts on this dilema would like to know how others are dealing with this problem.

To reduce the Project Browser crowding with views use the Browser Organization tool on the Setting pull-down menu-read the tutorials.

I actually responded to you last night, but lost the post when I closed the window (sigh).

I will second what Mel said - You can Organize the Project Browser in many different ways to suit your needs. There is a "Display All" feature where you can see everything, if you wish (or lose something like I have in the past :) ). We've set it up where all we want to see are the Design plans, or the Production Plans (CDs). You could set this up to only look at sections - whatever comes to mind that you can use.

In the Project Browser

Right click on the Views - at the top (the eyeball) - OR go to Settings >Browser Organization.
Click on Properties (your only choice)
Click on one of the views in the lower pull-down (other than ALL)
Click on Duplicate (to the right) and give it a new name
Click on the Folders or Filter button (below)
Enter your Descriptions as you need such as Discipline, sheet name, view type (plans, etc).

Once you set this up, it's a breeze flipping back and forth. This also works for controlling the view of Sheets - We also use for showing only the Arch sheets, or just the Mech sheets or just the Design sheets...etc. etc...

We've found that you can certainly add shared parameters to your Template and Titleblocks that help you organize your sheets and view. Obviously the more you add, the more control you have, but only a few should be needed.

Have fun Browsing!
