I'm currently getting pricing on new workstations and I am in need of video (graphic) card advise. The budget is about $400. Planning to run ADT 2006 and Revit. Is there any brand better than another. What cards do some of you have, and what do you like or dis-like about them. I would like to use an ATI, but me station builder leaning towards NVIDIA. Any thoughts?

I would stick with ATI and get this for $440 : ATI Radeon X800XL (512MB).

IMO, ATI stands true to it's promises.

ATI FireGL 3100 is a better price and does great working with Revit and ADT (but not Need For Speed). RAM and processor is more important.

RAM and processor is more important?

Read the specs. lately?

The card you mentioned isn't even in the same playing field.

FireGL V3100GPU X300 (RV370PRO-GL)
GPU Clock 400MHz
Memory Amount 128MB
Memory Clock 200MHz
Memory Type DDR
Memory Interface 256-bit
Bus Type PCI Express
Bus Speed x16

RADEON X800 XL
512MB Ultra Fast DDR3 Memory
Core Clock: 400MHz
0.11 micron process
Up to 16 extreme parallel pixel pipelines
256-bit quad-channel GDDR3 memory interface
8 extreme parallel pixel pipelines
6 programmable vertex shader pipelines
20% to 40% performance increase (FPS) at highest visual setting: 1600X1200.
400MHz RAMDACs for display resolutions up to and including 2048x1536@85Hz (2048x1536@85Hz)

Need for speed or need for power, this card has it all and is the biggest "bang for his $$'s"

I know it's not certified by Autodesk and not supported by ATI because it doesn't say "FireGL" in the name, but things have evolved and this card will perform great. Search around for people who've tried sucessfully.

Have you looked at the Nvidia Quadro series.

That what I have and the resolution with the addition of an LCD monitor creates
really sharp graphics.

Same here, very good product that handles everything...
