View Full Version : Display Configuration Bar just won't go away...

We have ADT 2004 & just replaced 2 cad techs (& created new accounts on XP Pro) on computers that have had ADT 2004 on them for some time. When I opened up ADT, there was a bar at the bottom of the screen that I've never seen before (circled in yellow):

I cannot find any way to get rid of it! The same computers never had it before & I've done as much searching for an answer as I can.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this thing? It isn't causing any real problems, but it is taking up screen space that it doesn't need to be.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not really sure how to turn it off in 2004. In 2006 there is a button at the bottom right called "Drawing Status Bar Toggle", but I can't seem to find anything similar in 2004.
I'm suprised you've never seen this, especially since you are using ADT. This is the quickest way to change your display configuration (hit the button that says "display system not initialized") Also, the little triangle on the left side is a shortcut to things like drawing setup.
IF you are working with project navigator, it shows which project information for the current project
In 2006 the status bar is even more improved and has more things available on it, such as viewport scale.

Thanks for the reply, Cholmes.
Just to clarify something: we are using ADT but we are only using the AutoCAD side of it - if it makes a difference. The last time my firm upgraded, they were given a deal that made it cheaper to upgrade to ADT rather than to regular AutoCAD, even though we don't need the extra functionality.
I've tried everything I can think of on that toolbar: right clicking, the little triangles, even tried dragging it into the workspace like a regular toolbar, but no luck. There is nothing that I can find in the help files except how to set the display configuration.
There HAS to be some way to turn that d%$@ thing off! A system variable or something? It's a lot of space to be taking up for something like that.

Anyone else have any ideas??

I'm not sure it's any better, but have you tried the "clean scree" mode. If you're not into button and command lines, it's nice.

A thought I had was that when you created a new user account on the machine & launched ADT from the new desktop shortcut that was created it has a profile switch in it activating the ADT menus. Another thing I thought of is that ADT is opening using a template that is configured to be used with ADT & has display configs in it already. That's another thing that might be bringing that up so check in options to see where it's pulling the qnew template from.

David: Thanks for the tip on the "cleen screen" mode, but the users that are having the problem are avid button pushers. I, on the other hand, might give it a try since I use keys for almost everything.
Steve: I've already looked at the menus being loaded: only ACAD, Express Tools & our custom menus. I'll check the options/qnew template settings tomorrow when I get in. One other thing that I always do is to remove the extra startup switches that are added to the desktop icon when it's created (the ones to the "imperial.dwt" & the default ADT profile) so those items shouldn't be the problem. There is another switch that loads a dbx file: AecBase40.dbx. I didn't think that was problematic, but it could be.
OK, I logged in via remote desktop (couldn't wait until tomorrow), deleted the load switch, and the problem still remains. Damn. But while I was logged in, I did check the template settings & they all point to our custom stuff - the same files as the other computers that aren't having the "bar" problem.
Any other ideas?

So, you took out the profile switch, the aecbase40.dbx from the launch icon...
I know this is gonna sound redundant, but when you go into options, do you only see the autocad tabs at the top (i.e.: files thru profiles)? If there's more tabs to the right then it is loading adt stuff. Also, look at the profiles tab & make sure the proper profile is loaded & set current.
If! after checking all this & the bar is still there, I'll ask around some to see what I can find out.

Did you install Service Pack 2 for ADT 2004 (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=3572905&linkID=2475897) on the new machines? If so, there is a registry edit that can be done to remove the Drawing Window Status Bar. It is described in the README for the Service Pack (http://download.autodesk.com/prodsupp/downloads/adt2004swlsp2enu.htm).

Steve -
Yup, the switch is gone. That one would be an easy one to miss, too, but I've had issues with it starting the default profile from there & it tends to **** people off when their own changes keep disappearing. Also, the AEC tabs do not show & the correct profile is loaded & set current. But, see below...
Dkoch -
You are the prize winner. I do in fact have SP2 installed, so I dug into the registry, changed the setting, and the bar is GONE! Kaput. Finis.
Thank you. That one is printed out & in my cad manager's book for future reference.
Nice find, Dkoch.
