Family templates

Does anyone know if the Revit family templates ever need to be updated from one release to the next and how to accomplish this. I have been trying to create a new section head from the supplied section head family and everything goes smoothly until I attempt to place the section view onto a sheet. As soon as I do this revit 'encounters an unrecoverable error' and asks if I wish to save or exit.
Normally I would think I'm doing something wrong but even the most minor changes based on the template will cause the same crash everytime.

too append this, I'm not sure why there are two identical posts but I found I'm having a much bigger problem. Now any section I create regardless of the section head used is crashing revit as described above.
Please help.
I'm not yet too far along so I might just as well start over but I'm not sure I won't run into the same problems.

Possibly the template file was corrupted.

Suggest you try a clean reinstall of content.
