Pattern Components on a Line/Spline

In AutoCAD you can use the MEASURE or DIVIDE commands to place blocks along a LINE, PLINE, SPLINE, etc. It would be nice to have a similar ability in an Inventor Assembly to pattern Parts. It would also be nice if there was a similar ability in Part files to pattern Features in an irregular fashion.

Thanks, I was unaware you could select other geometry to specify the pattern direction.
