Is it possible to create a non-numbered Title heading in a sheet index such as for example "PLANS", "INTERIOR ELEVATIONS" etc that would be a heading for each subset of drawings?

You are in luck....there is.

1. Go to Settings>Project Parameters

2. Now you will get a Project Parameters dialog box....select Add from the button on the right.

3. Now you will enter the Parameter Properties dialog box.
a. At the top left you will see two bullets; Project Parameters and Shared Parameters....leave the Project Parameter selected.
b. Under Parameter Data you will need to enter some information. First type in the name of the parameter (ie. Sheet Subset). Discipline should be "Common" and Type should be "Text". Group the parameter under any category that you feel makes the most since and leave the instance bullet checked.
c. Now you have to make some decisions when selecting the category for the parameter. Because we are talking about sheets and indexing sheets, you would want to select the "Drawing Sheets" category.
d. Now select "OK" to exit the dialog box(es).

4. This is the confusing part. If you go to a sheet view, right click your mouse button over the highlighted titleblock, and select Properties from the menu (NOT view properties) you will notice that your newly created parameter does not show up. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS RIGHT CLICK THE SHEET VIEW IN THE PROJECT BROWSER, then go to the properties option. (Development Team - can we fix this?).

5. Scroll down until you find the parameter you created. In the right hand column, type in the sheet subset name (ie. Plans, Elevations, Interior Elevations, Details etc.)

Your are not done yet.

6. Now your need to create a new drawing list. Go to View>New>Drawing List (Factory - can we get this as a schedule option?) Now you need to select the fields you would like to schedule.

7. Finally, you will need to set up your Sorting, Filtering and other schedule formatting information to get the schedule to appear the way you would like.

I may have missed a step, but this is how I have approached issues like this. If others have faster/better methods, please share.

Good Luck.

Man what a convoluted process for something that should be so simple
but thanks for that tip in any case.

In real life it only takes about 3 minutes to do this operation. I just did something extremely similar today in 3 minutes.
