View Full Version : Roof Eave Gutter Flashing Soffit...

I go tired of managing an eave and a gutter separatly. Plus the eave never really joined to the roof the way I wanted with the sheathing overlapping the fascia. So I combined them all into one profile. Works much better for me and gives me a model closer to the final detail.

I like the extra line on the elevation I can turn into a dashed line to indicate the flashing. Something I used to do in the days of hand drawings.

Sounds like a good idea. Mind posting it for...review?

Aaron, newbie here. Love your detail. But how do I go about about editing it for different roof slopes. Downloaded the file and is now a profile but how do I edit? Appreciate the help.

highlight roof and click edit. You will see angle symbols appear. At the angle symbols you can change the roof pitch.

I think you misunderstood my question. Aaron's posted file included his profile which as drawn has a fixed slop of 12:12. I want to modify that slope to fit other foof slopes and other soffit depths. My question is to how to modify those, not the roof slope itself, but the profile.

Here's one with a slope parameter....

Aaron,
I have been trying for some time to modify your roof eave detail to1) make fascia board parametric (1x6, 1x8, etc.); 2) make soffit depth parametic (8"-10" etc). and 3) make slope of roof parametric 3:12, 5:12, etc. Every time I try and make a change and load into fascia profile it tells me I cannot make fascia. Please help, what am I doing wrong?

Not sure. Would need to see how you've set up the constraints....

Actually doing pretty good so far. Only problem having trouble with is how to achieve specif pitch on roof slope 0 5/12,7/12 etc. Tried rotating deck-sheathing-shingle to proper slope but get error stating no loops. Constraints. DId not see any but am fairly new to Family Editor.

How do I get roof slope to be parametric?

Aaron:

Here is the profile I am working with. Have added the parametric values I want for soffit depth, fascia size, gutter, etc. However when I try to add parametric to slope I get problems. Any help?

well this thread is really oldbut i do know you would haev to make a new parapeter called rise and make it a length instance parameter and then another instance angle parametr called angle or what ever you might call it and then in the formula field you would would specify =atan(rise/1') that will give you the roof angle and then the pieces that the slope adjusts acordingly aply them to the angle parameter.

usually when you need something to change angle in a family, a reference line must be used as opposed to a reference plane.
