View Full Version : how does revit calculate the area of walls

Hi all, this sounds like a stupid question:

Revit reports the volumes of walls, as well as areas. I can understand how it reports volumes, but am unsure how it reports areas. Presumably it is a surface area, but I don't think its all the surface areas combined, but am unsure.

Can someone clarify. (this is all related to the earlier tiling question in case you hadn't guessed!)

Thanks.

Hmmm, answering my own question I think, but it seems to be the centreline length of the wall x height.

This will vary then depending on the wall junction detail (ie: mitred, butt joint etc.)

Check out the attached file. If the area was reporting the area of the inner face, it would be reporting 10sq.m (height is 1m x (5 x 2)) Or if it was the outside, it would be 1m x (5.35 x 2).

Take a look at the area schedule. This is using a mitred wall join.

Probably useless but interesting to know! ;)

I believe it is the centreline ... so you can't rely on its accuracy for brick external or internal plaster / tiling for that matter ...

What happens with roofs?
