View Full Version : Blocks named A$C2F2... Where do the names come from?
I have a drawing that I am working on and I have noticed that there are blocks that are called weird names like Block A$C2F217A3B despite the fact that the block has a normal name (in this case: men's toilets - a block of a pair of toilets)
This drawing has a couple of XRefs and many blocks ......
What does it mean when AutoCAD renames a block in this manner?

What does it mean when AutoCAD renames a block in this manner?can you explain how the block has a name of a$c2f2... and men's toilets? is this a nested block, or was the block in question an inserted instance of men's toilet? is this a dynamic block? or imported from a vertical?

If you did a copy-clip and paste from another drawing it will give it a name similar to that. It's a block that contains the block you want that's created when you copy it from the other drawing.
Try exploding it and list the object to see if the block you want is still there or if it's separate entities.
Make sure to undo if you don't want it to stay that way.

when I explode the A$C2F2 block, it reverts to its original block and name.

well, when I open the A$C2F2 block, I go into bock editor and another block (the original - men's toilets) is there. When I click IT and go into Block Editor AGAIN, I can edit individual enmtities within the block. I don't understand what nested blocks are . It is definitely NOT a DB. But this block appears as part of an Xref.
Not sure if that helps or not.

nested block is just when a block is inside of another block. you can looked in help > index > nested > blocks for additional information.
personally, my cad standards prohibit the use of them, but, sometimes they are necessary.

Oh. I never knew that. after how many years of using CAD??? guess I still have a lot to learn.
I'll look into it and see what I can figure out as far as getting rid of nested blocks.
Thanks for the insight, Augi Doggie and Mel.

Not sure if that helps or not.Rico, sounds like someone did a Copy (ctrl+v), then Paste as Block. That happens all the time on my machine... (my personall pref instead of 'grouping')
