View Full Version : Joining Precast Components

I'm working on three parking structures associated with a shopping mall project. I would like to have my precast double-tees actually bearing on their supporting beams! Revit's structural joining stops the precast at the beam edge.

I tried some modifications to the families, with no success. Any ideas (besides forgetaboutit)?

AJ,

See the attached sample family and project. I have modified the single precast structural tee family and added an offset instance parameter.
Project and family saved in Revit 6.1
Hope this helps.

Joe,

Thanks. I'll see if I can learn from your example.

After learning from Joe's examples, I tweaked these families a bit further.

In the beam families, there are two reference plane at each end (i.e. left and member left). I added a parameter "offset" to each end - now I can adjust the distance from the end of the member to its snap point. My double-tees can bear on the inverted T-beam, insteadof hanging mysteriously in space.

Incidentally, in examining the properties of the inside reference planes, the value in the "reference" field was not set. I changed the values for member left and member right to "not a reference".

To allow my L-beams to be placed eccentrically on their columns, I removed the EQ-EQ width constraint, and placed an "offset" parameter from the center reference plane to the outside beam face.

Thanks to Revit support for pointing me in the right direction. :D
