I've never had this problem before until 2006... with my toolbars, I have them setup so my Draw toolbar is on the left, and the Modify is next to that (still on the left) and now for some odd reason, when i open up AutoCAD the Modify has moved below the Draw instead of next to it...

any thought?

Hi

Plug the following search criteria into the forum search (http://forums.augi.com/search.php?) facility ( hint - limit your search to the AutoCAD 2006 CUI Menus (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=209) forum )...

Key Word(s): *Toolbar* + *WorkSpace* + *Position*

Have a good one, Mike

I have ditched 90% of my toolbars. I only use one customized toolbar, but I can take a shot at helping you... Have you tried locking the locations of your toolbars?

Hi,

seems like the arrangement of toolbars you did is not saved while you close AutoCAD. Once you start AutoCAD again, they appear in same places. You need to use WSSETTINGS command and select AUTOMATICALLY SAVE WORKSPACE SETTINGS. Click OK and rearrange the toolbar. Once you restart AutoCAD, you could find the toolbars are on the same places where you moved last time. Hope this helps.

cheers!

Another legitimate point, but if you are not changing WorkSpaces, you shouldn't have that problem, I wouldn't think.

I do have my setting to automatically save my settings, and i dont change workspaces (im the CAD IT Guy... so we are actually in the process of switching over to 06 from 02 (HUGE Jump, and im lovin it!) so I have actually installed 06 three times on my computer to work out any future bugs with the rest of the installs we need to do... the first two installs i had no problems... the the third one (which i did identical to the second, just did it for documentation) this problem arrised.

I hope that makes sense to you guys, cuz i just read it, and it's a little confusing (and im the one that wrote it!!!)

I have toolbars reset themselves every so often.
Doesn't matter if I pay close attention to what I am doing in the CUI to prevent it......
eventually I will just get lazy and BLAMMO! They go all over the place.

Autodesk should do something about this

We, too, recently upgraded from 2002, but we went from 2002LT to full version 2006. That was a huge jump. But, it gave me a lot of things to look at, and a lot of configuring to do. The Engineers love that.

We are using LDT 2006 and have experienced a similar problem but only with LDT toolbars.

I don't have a solution to your problem but I do have a work around. If the user saves a workspace and then sets it to My Workspace, the preferred toolbar locations can be restored by clicking the My Workspace button on the Workspaces toolbar.

I know it's a bit extreme, but I think the "easiest" solution is to pop in the AutoCAD CD and run a repair on the program. If that doesn't fix it, try saving any customization files that you need to, and re-install AutoCAD. That normally seems to fix these screwy problems.

I was just browsing through my AutoCAD Help and I stumbled over the command LOCKUI. Have you tried that? It sounds like it should solve your problem. Let me know.

If you follow the suggestion in my initial post to this thread, you will see LockUI is one of the suggestions offered in the threads returned from performing the suggested search (http://forums.augi.com/search.php?).

Do you have any toolbars that belong to a partial menugroup?
If so, the loading of these toolbars may affect the placement of other toolbars and LOCKUI does not help.

Yea, but it would take a hour to read those 46 posts. Why not just say LOCKUI to begin with?

Have a good one yourself....

Funny, I only count 3 results from performing an AutoCAD 2006 CUI Menus (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=209) forum search (http://forums.augi.com/search.php?) ( as was clearly "hinted" at in my initial post ) using...

You are right, I was counting this thread also, which turned up in the search.

3 results, containing a total of 39 posts... :)

Are you saying the toolbars do not remember their position when you restore a workspace?

Sounds like the problem described here:
http://support.autodesk.com/Getdoc.asp?ID=TS66020

I didn't see a reply to whether this was the problem or not.

I'm starting to think that if you'e tried all of the suggested options, it may be time (if it's bothersome enough) to re-install AutoCAD.

Ok, I tried this... didn't exactly work, but I tried, just for the heck of it, to put it on the other side (just to see if it'd stay) and it stayed there.... Im really confused...

Might just have to dump it and re-install again... I guess I wanted something different to do today anyways!

See if the following Technical Document helps...

This has been discussed quite a bit over in autodesk's discussion groups. The prevailing theory is that the toolbars get arranged according to the order that your CUI files are loaded (rather than their orientation which you saved in your workspace). When you've got a Main CUI with several partials and an Enterprise CUI with several partials, this can cause very unpredictable orientation of your toolbars at startup. I understand that the developers are constantly under pressure to get the next release out, but we as customers really should demand better than this.

If you're noticing the above symptoms, try typing the following at your command line (verbatim, with parentheses):

(SETVAR "wscurrent" (GETVAR "wscurrent"))

For those of you who are familiar with lisp, this code may appear to be very redundant, but if the line is run _after_ the toolbars are scattered by AutoCAD, then it will reorient them to the the way you saved them in your workspace.

If the line works your you, you can experiment with adding it to your acad.lsp, acaddoc.lsp or s::startup. Since it appears that it only has to fire each time AutoCAD starts (as opposed to each time a drawing is opened) I've developed a semi-sophisticated method to ensure that it only fires when necessary when my users are working in SDI more (LDT) or in MDI mode (C3D). If the above line works for you from the command line and you'd like more information on how I implement it, please let me know.

Thank you so much for this tip!
I've been dealing with the same issue. I added the comment to my acad2006.lsp, and it is working now.....Thanks again-you rock!

I'm glad I could help. FYI - be careful with that acad2006.LSP file since it's one that's provided by Autodesk. You might be better off in the long run by creating your own acad.lsp to put your customizations in.

You'll probably find that this is just one of many annoyances/bugs/idiosyncrasies in 2006. Since Autodesk is usually very silent about bugs and workarounds, I pitched the idea of a big bug list to AUGI. They decided to pass on it, but I felt it was important enough to log this stuff that I decided to do it on my own. Check it out at www.texupport.net

As Ralph mentions, get your code out of the core "acad2006.lsp", and move it to a user file (acad.lsp, acaddoc.lsp). Otherwise it's subject to vanish the next time you upgrade, repair, add a SP, etc.
