Demo shapes from existing walls

We are trying to demo shapes within an existing wall with no luck...

We've tried:
In-Place Families
Opening Tool
Door Opening Families
Edit Profile w/ Infill

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

you would have to build two walls, one the shape of what is left after demo and one the shape of the piece you want demo'd, then hit that piece wiht the hammer.

I tried this on the attached file and it almost works. The boundary unfortunately doesn't show in elevation or 3D view when you join geometry. Instead of joining geometry I guess I could use the lineweight tool to hide the line on the existing elevation.

Mr. Spot suggested using a Generic model wall hosted opening and that seems to have the same problem. I guess this is an issue for Autodesk.
