I'm trying to modify my cable tray dblock (The one that looks like Underoos). If I add a point parameter to each midpoint of the tee & set it in my BCYCLEORDER I can adjust the insert point of the block. Cool right, nope, because no mater how I adjust the block the the new insertion point is where the original point parameter was located, even if it was included in the other parameters to stretch & move. I can't seem to straighten it out. Has anyone else had difficulty with this. Thanks for your $.02 worth.

You say that you are adding a point parameter? Do you mean insertion point? I think that you need to have the insertion point parameter to be able to cycle through. If not, post your block, and someone can take a look at it.

Actually, I had a question that would fall under a very similar topic...

I have been dabbling with multiple insertion points recently, and I just modified a block with multiple visibility states. It's a Duct Elbow/Tee, and I added the multiple alignment points at significant points that may or may not be hidden depending on visibility status. My problem is, when I toggle through the insertion points, it gives me the option to select points that are not visible due to the visibility state. Is there a way to modify that?

esdeyo,

If you are looking for multiple insertion points, I don't think that adding point parameters will get you what you want. Point parameters are meant for actions and reference points within Dynamic Blocks. I don't think that they can be used as insertion points. Chris, please correct me if I'm wrong here.

If you add, however, an alignment parameter and a base point parameter you can cycle through these and use them as insertion points.

Also, when you insert a block, this is what comes up on the command line:
Command: i
INSERT
Specify insertion point or [Basepoint/Scale/Rotate/PScale/PRotate]:

If you choose Basepoint (or "B" "enter") you can specify from what point in your block you wanna insert it, so if you have a circle and you wanna insert it with the basepoint as top quadrant 90%%D, you simply pick the point and voila! new insertion point for your block and we're all happy.

Let me know if this helps.

I stand corrected. I checked in on it myself and found that YES you can use points as insertion points. after pressing I (for insert) and you have selected your block, before deciding where you will place it on modelspace, simply press *CTRL* and you can cycle through the insertion points.

I had never used (or thought of using) point parameters as insertion points. So I was uninformed.

My bad.

JM,

I do not have an answer for your problem yet .... i'll get back to you though.

Thank you, Rico, However, I thought you might have that answer off the top of your head.

I, too, stand corrected, I didn't realize that you could use the point parameter for an insertion point.

I was able to recreate your problem ..... but I have no solution for it.

I did notice that, when cycling is taken off, then the multiple insertion points do not appear in the different vis states. Then, however, cycling through your multiple insertion points is not an option ........ catch 22 .... Chris ..... thoughts?

Also, it's good to note this: When using Point Parameters as insertion points, you cannot make their position permanent, therefore, you have to be careful in making sure that their position remains at the point where it is supposed to be. The point can be grabbed and moved from its position once the block has been inserted.

Could you include those points into an action which shows no grips? I haven't tested this, just brainstorming. I know it's just a lite mist. That's all I had. ;)

It's not a visibility issue. I don't see what I don't want to see. I'll get a little more detailed on the issue...

The block has an option of being either a square elbow or a Tee intersection. I have placed multiple alignment grips at various points around the object. Some of which, I do not want/need to show up on the smaller (elbow) block. The Elbow is the default visibility state, as it is the more common (I assume that is the typical way of setting these up...), but when I insert the block and filter through the various insertion points, I get the option of using the two "points" that are invisible due to their association strictly with the Tee part of the block. (I may have just answered my question, but feel free to continue input)
