Linked DWGS not working well

Linked DWG files, I import only the layers that are visible in a linked file or ones I pick - only for Revit to ignore this when you reload the file and display the wrong layer? Linked DWG files do not work well for me with regards to layers and also scale, can anyone else use them 100% or is it just me that has this problem, I reported the scaling issue before about R5.0 or something and for some weird reason it seemed that it was only me that suffered from this. I can import all the all layers and switch off the ones I dont want though, so I can use linked DWGS, but not the import certain layers option.

Is this with 5.1? We had some issues with linked DWG files with 5.1 that went away with 6... Namely that re-loaded DWG's would ignore thier viability settings and 'scramble' the layers.

Its 6.1 we are using. It is ok if we imprt all the layers then switch some off - but the import layers by selection does not work once its re-loaded.
