Is it possible to cut a sloped beam in Revit 8.1. I have tried to add a void into the beam family to the end of the beam? But that is not working, because my beam has a slight slope.

Do you have any ideas

See also the attached detail (in elevation). The cyan column is vertically oriented. The beam (green) has a slight slope and the plate (yellow) has to be vertically attached to the column.

Hi

Two ideas:

Can you cut the end of the beam with an in-place void?

Can you make a sloped beam family with an embedded void: I've used this technique with columns after Mr Spot's advice in thread: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=1058

Hello,

The Inplace void does not work. In fact the whole Join and Cut geometry tools do not work for Structurals. The only thing that's left is to create an Inplace Beam family. I do not like that idea, because I want to use the connection in other projects also.

I can create a void within the beam family. As long as the family is horizontal it works fine. However, my beam has a slope and therefore is giving me these problems

That could have been very easy if we could just have Revit Structure's capablity inside Revit Building where beams and columns can be cut by ref plane....

I dont think an in place void can cut a structural beam or column for that matter...the only option left is to create a void within the structural element family.

Hi

Could you explain a bit about how the 'void within the beam family' technique doesn't work for you, when the beam is sloped?

Look at this sloped gluelam family that I have parameters for vertical end cuts, I'm thinking it's what you're after. I've included the .txt Type library file if you want to add both in the same folder to your library. Also including a quick diagram of method.

When making the cuts in your family, or anytime you want to cut with a void, be sure to use the cut geometry tool with the void before you exit the Void Form tool.

Solution:

-Make an in place familly beam - make the voids with the angle as required - Keep beam horizontal. create parameters.
-Create a Reference plane paralele to roof rafters, name it - set as current work plane.
-Load in place slopped beam.
-Create a beam system - properties: select slopped beam - set direction (paralele lines) - adjust boundaries lines - ok

The slopped beam are now trimed and in the correct plane.
