I am trying to make dynamic block for my house pads with visibility states for each of the pad types, (Walkout, Lookout, Full Basement, and Split) the block is just a 50'x50' rectangle with the front and rear pad elevations on top or on bottom, and the pad type in between (see attach). What i want to be able to do is input the front elevation and then depending on the pad type automatically change the rear elevation. i.e. a walkout's rear elevation is 8' below the front elevation, lookout is 4' etc. When i set up my the formula for the rear elevation and input the front elevation all i get is the #### in my fields, This only happens when the formulas are in a DBlock. I am at a loss, any help would be much appreciated.

I can't honestly say that I fully understand what you are trying to do with the overall idea, but I understand what the problem is .... I think. I have attached a copy of the same block but it is (in my mind, anyway) fixed. all i did was edit the field itself and connected it to the value you wanted to subtract by ....... I kind of half stumbled upon the answer, cuz I've only used fields very lightly before this, though I understand some of the theories .... and now I am rambling.

Anyway, have a look and let me know if it works for ya. Happy Blocking.

Thanks for your reply.

I think my main problem was having a whole bunch of problems and not knowing what i was doing, having limited experience with DBs and Fields myself. However after much coffee and swearing, I came up with a way to do what I wanted to do without having to input any data, I just added a circle at the center of the pad that only shows up in the initial visibility state, and i have the front elevation referencing the Z value of the center of the circle, so i just insert the pad at elevation and select my pad type. It works pretty slick.
