View Full Version : Formula in level/elevation tag ?

I was wondering if it was possible to put a formula in a level or a spot elevation tag, from what I've tried it doesn't look possible. The reason being I would like to show the brick course height, thought I'd through it out there for those with a greater knowledge or possibly another suggestion.
Regards, Paul.
Not a hundred percent sure on how you would do this. You could use a shared parameter in a tag and it should be able to do what you require. You might have too use a generic tag and then tell it to change to be a spot elevation symbol.

if you're just trying to note the height of the brick course as a fixed dimension above another level you could dimension and lock the levels relationship to each other and then, if you don't want to see the dimension, delete it. You'll be asked if you want to keep the constraint established if you delete it... say yes and the brick level should move with the floor level.
if it's something more complicated then you'll have to explain

Regards, Paul. Are you looking to have the level to read something like "28 courses above FFL" by calculating the 28 as 2100mm/75mm? Sounds useful... can't see immediately how you could do it though! :|

Thanks everyone for the replies.
Greg, see Elronds post as this is exactly what I'm trying to achieve.
Elrond, thats exactly what I'm trying to do, add a formula that is the height/75 to give me the brick course height with a suffix saying whatever you want, as you said "28 courses above FFL" or in my case just a simple C for course.
I've tried it with the level annotation but it wont accept the formula always comes up with an error message, and with a spot elevation tag I cant add a shared parameter, also tried what Elmo suggested and tried a generic tag but when I changed it to a spot elevation tag I lost the shared parameter.
Elmo, tried it with the generic tag but as I mentioned above when I changed it to a spot elevation tag I lost the shared parameter.
I might be doing something wrong as I haven't really had alot of time to play with it, will post back if I get it sorted.
Regards, Paul.
Tomorrow is a public holiday here for us but I'll try and find some sort of solution on thursday. I had a hoped that it would work but that was something I hadn't tried since I was currently busy with something. If I do find a solution I'll post right away.

Clinton thanks, I'll see if I can come up with anything in the meantime, have good day off.

HI there Pual.
I couldn't find a way for Revit too automatically calculate the when placed. This is the only way I could do this. What I did was use a generic annotaion and applied the formula. It doesn't show up in 3d so I don't know if this is what you wanted and whats more you have too tell the symbol(thats what it is when brought into the project) what height it is so it can calculate the the Courses.
Hopefully this is what you where looking for. If not I can try and have another bash at it but I can't think of something else.
